EN ISO 11612: Heat and Flame Protection European Standard
This European standard sets the requirements for garments designed to safeguard individuals from contact with heat and flames in various industries and working environments.
Garment Combination and Full Body Protection
To achieve the appropriate level of protection, two-piece protective clothing under EN ISO 11612 must be worn together, ensuring that the entire body is covered. It is important to adhere to the specified garment combination to ensure optimal protection against heat and flames. The combination of garments will be indicated on the CE label inside the garment, along with code letters certifying the garment's compliance.
Parts of EN ISO 11612
EN ISO 11612 consists of different parts, each addressing specific aspects of heat and flame protection. These parts define the requirements and testing methods for various performance parameters. The key parts of the standard are as follows:
Limited Flame Spread
Part A of EN ISO 11612 focuses on the garment's ability to resist flame spread. When exposed to an open flame for 10 seconds, the garment should extinguish within 2 seconds without any holes forming. A1: Surface Ignition. A2: Edge Ignition
Protection against Convective Heat
Part B specifies the garment's ability to prevent the passage of heat when exposed to an open flame. B1: 4-10 seconds, B2: 10-20 seconds, B3: 20 seconds or more.
Protection against Radiant Heat
Part C determines how effectively the garment can block the transfer of heat when exposed to radiant heat sources. C1: 7-20 seconds, C2: 20-50 seconds, C3: 50-95 seconds, C4: 95 seconds or more
Protection against Molten Aluminum Splash
Part D specifies the garment's resistance to molten aluminum splash, indicating the amount of splash it can handle before holes form. D1: 100-200 grams, D2: 200-350 grams, D3: 350 grams or more.
Protection against Molten Iron Splash
Part E addresses the garment's protection against molten iron splash, indicating the amount of splash it can handle before holes form. E1: 60-120 grams, E2: 120-200 grams, E3: 200 grams or more.
Protection against Contact Heat
